How to use this estimate

Use dimensions from an approved plan. Count each volume only once at corners and intersecting runs; overlapping rectangles can inflate the result. If widths or depths vary, calculate each section independently. A stem wall above the footing is a separate volume and must be included separately.

The calculation

Footing volume = total non-overlapping length × width × depth.

A worked example

A 40 ft run, 16 in wide and 8 in deep, uses 35.5556 ft³. Adding 10% gives 1.4486 yd³.

This calculator does not size foundations or verify soil bearing capacity, frost depth, reinforcement or building-code compliance.

Common questions

Can I use it for isolated pads?

Calculate a single rectangular pad and multiply the quantity, or use the slab calculator for each size. Round the combined order only after adding the volumes.
