How to use this estimate
Measure the area that actually needs topping up. If existing mulch is retained, enter only the additional depth rather than the full finished depth. Break curved borders into smaller shapes and add their areas. The bag size is volume, not weight, and it should match the package label.

A worked example
A 10 × 10 ft bed at 3 in depth needs 25 ft³ without extra allowance. At 2 ft³ per bag, buy 13 bags.
The depth is your input, not horticultural advice. Avoid assuming that deeper mulch is always better; follow appropriate guidance for your plants.
